FINANCIAL SUPPORT BIAS:

A bias that occurs when one either over-emphasizes, or de-emphasizes the importance of a study because of the organization that provided the financial support1. For example, when one assumes the study methods are valid because it was supported by a large pharmaceutical company, or large non-profit organization vs. a small, or relatively unknown company or organization.

Financial Support Bias is a type of Interpretative Bias similar to Prestige Bias; and should not be confused with Funding Bias (bias due to the removal of financial support), or Favoured Resource Allocation Bias (bias due to conclusions on how funding should be allotted for healthcare). Also see: Interpretive Bias, Prestige Bias, Funding Bias, Favoured Resource Allocation Bias, Money Bags Bias, and Famous Person or Institution Bias.
